Update on Frank Baldino from his wife Emmy:
Good morning dear friends,
I know it’s been a while since my last update but we have been very busy here at the Baldino household!
Frank had his appointment for the cerebral angiogram in April and saw his Neurologist for the
results. He has plaque in his blood vessels in his brain and that seems to have been the cause of the stroke along with high blood pressure. This diagnosis is better than finding inflammation of the blood vessels as the course of treatment would have been much more intensive. He is continuing with all his medications and we have a recheck with the Neurologist in November.
Physical and occupational therapy is still continuing. Frank has “graduated” from the lift to a sit-to- stand machine. He is able to pull himself up with this and then transfer to his wheelchair. Makes transferring much easier and also strengthens his muscles as he has to use them all to stand. The two therapists and myself have teamed up to help him walk. It takes all three of us and the aid of a walker to stand up and take steps. He has been able to walk the length of the kitchen (thank goodness for open concept living) and back! That is about 30 feet total. We all are very pleased and excited when he accomplishes this walk!!! Unfortunately, Frank has no use of his right hand and has learned to use his left hand practicing on a white board to sign his name and has become proficient in holding utensils to eat.
Frank was fitted for a motorized wheelchair and is now much more independent. It was rough at first learning to drive with his left hand and using a joystick…the walls are evidence of his mistakes!! He loves going outside and driving down the driveway to get the mail and cruising around the house!
Alisha’s wedding was August 8th and it was a very emotional but beautiful day. She chose to have first look with her Dad instead of the groom and it really was very touching.
Frank did not reach his goal of walking Alisha down the aisle and that’s okay…God blessed us with Frank being here for our daughter’s wedding and that’s all that matters. I’ve enclosed some pictures of Frank and the wedding. We wanted to share them with all of you.
I’m very behind in writing thank you cards to everyone who has been so kind and generous with their prayers, thoughts and gifts and I apologize for that…please know we are both ever so thankful for ALL of you and I will be writing soon.
Many blessings to all of you and please stay well. Our doors are always open to anyone who would like to visit!!
