Gerald John Lukowski Sr., age 88, of Middlebury (formerly of Shelton), beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Mulligan Lukowski, died peacefully on January 29, 2026, at Bridgeport Hospital with his family by his side. Born in Dickson City, PA on April 22, 1937, he was the son of the late Edward and Victoria Yazdzik Lukowski. Mr. Lukowski joined the Connecticut Army National Guard (CTARNG) in 1954 and served in the 211th Coastal Artillery. In 1958 to 1960, Mr. Lukowski served in 242nd Coast Artillery Regiment of the CTARNG defending the coast and harbors of Long Island Sound. From 1960 to 1964 he served in the CTARNG on the Nike Ajax Missile base in Westport, CT and from 1964 to 1971 on the Nike Hercules Missile base in Ansonia, CT. From 1971 to 1983, Mr. Lukowski served in the 102nd Infantry Battalion of the CTARNG, headquartered in New Naven, CT. Mr. Lukowski worked as a Military Inspector from 1980 to 1992 for the Defense Contract Management Agency of Bridgeport, providing administration services to the Department of Defense ensuring defense equipment was delivered on time, within budget and performance parameters. He then worked as a security guard at St. Vincents Medical Center, Bridgeport from 1992 to 2016. Mr. Lukowski served on the Connecticut Army National Guard Funeral Honor Guard Detail from 1971-1980 and 1992 to 2022 and provided Military Honors Services to over 3500 veterans. Mr. Lukowski retired as a Master Sergent in the CTARNG after 30 years of dedicated service to the CTARNG. Mr. Lukowski was a member of the 102nd New Haven Grays, the David S. Miles Post 174, American Legion of Oxford, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 640 of Naugatuck and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 7300 of Oakville.
Mr. Lukowski is survived by his devoted son, Gen. Gerald J. Lukowski, Jr., CTARNG and his wife Mary Beth of Middlebury; cherished grandchildren, John Lukowski and Sarah Lukowski of Austin, TX, 1LT Emily Lukowski, USAF of Joint Base Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and Megan Lukowski of Middlebury; He was predeceased by sisters, Joan Roche and Arlene Kurtz; and brothers, James, Robert, Thomas and Edward Lukowski. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at 9:00 a.m., from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in the Good Shepherd Church of St. Nicholas Parish, 135 Mountain Road, Seymour. Interment with full military honors will follow in Mt.
