Attending the EANGUS 2025 National Conference as an Area 1 Professional Development (PD) representative was an eye-opening experience. With little prior knowledge of EANGUS and unsure of what to expect, I walked away deeply appreciative and grateful for an opportunity that most National Guard members never get to experience. Two standout takeaways defined my time at the conference:
1. A Crash Course in EANGUS Operations:
I was captivated by the behind-the-scenes look at how EANGUS functions. The morning caucuses gave PD representatives a chance to understand the challenges board members face and how they plan to address them. Seeing delegates collaborating on nationwide
talking points helped me grasp how collective dialogue shapes solutions for Guard members. It sparked ideas on how PD reps can support their Areas more effectively. Sitting in at these meetings also helped me empathize with the pressing issue of low EANGUS membership, especially in Connecticut. I left with a renewed drive to motivate members of the 103d Air Control Squadron to join EANGUS and to provide the Area 1 board with the resources needed to advocate for Guard rights.
2. Direct Access to Senior Leadership:
Most National Guard members never get the chance to hear directly from the leaders who make decisions that affect them. I had that opportunity for four days. Hearing from these individuals helped me focus on how to better prepare for future challenges and reinforced the importance of readiness. The chance to speak with Senior NCOs in a calm, open environment was incredibly valuable. Their insights into the trials and tribulations we all face as NCOs gave me new tools to tackle both tactical and administrative challenges in my daily role.
Beyond these two core experiences, EANGUS 2025 also gave me a deeper understanding of my rights as a Guard member. The exhibit hall showcased cutting-edge technology and innovative solutions that will shape the future of our force. I saw EANGUS as an organization rooted in tradition and pride, and I’m truly thankful for the opportunity to be part of it.
