Apr 16, 2025 | Army

The National Guard Association of Connecticut President Katie Zarzycka presented the NGACT Minuteman Award to two Connecticut Army National Guard soldiers at the Army Aviation Support Facility in Windsor Locks. Specialist Shane Berube and Specialist Joseph Montenegro were recognized for their heroic actions on January 30, 2025, when they rendered aid to a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Old County Road.
Specialist Berube, a petroleum supply specialist assigned to Echo Company, 1st Battalion, 169th Aviation Regiment, was the first to arrive at the scene. Noticing a woman lying in the road, he stopped his vehicle, activated his hazard lights, and approached her. Drawing upon his Combat Lifesaver training, he assessed her condition and discovered a significant head injury. Specialist Montenegro, a CH-47 helicopter repairer with Delta Company, 2nd Battalion, 104th Aviation Regiment, arrived shortly after and assisted Berube in providing medical care until emergency services arrived.
Their swift and decisive actions exemplify the core values of the Connecticut National Guard. We are proud to honor their commitment to service and their unwavering dedication to the safety and well-being of our community!
Congratulations!
