Military Resorts in Hawaii (A note from Stephanie at Poppin’ Smoke)
Mr. Poppin’ Smoke and I spent most of the summer visiting family and friends in the States. Our original plan was to return to Rota at the end of this month, but we’ve decided to visit some good friends in Hawaii first.
While we’re there, we’re looking forward to spending part of that visit at a military resort! If you didn’t already know, the military has hotels, cabins, and beachfront cottages scattered across three different islands in Hawaii.
Check out our guide to Hawaii military resorts and recreational lodging to read about them all and try to guess where we’re going! Stephanie

We had the opportunity to visit Sal at his home in Cromwell, CT and spent several hours listening him reflect on his military career. He shared his memorabilia binder with pictures and documents of his time in the Army. He has quite a portfolio of military accomplishments.

The formal military dinner ceremony known as the “Dining-In” is an old and traditional military affair believed to have its origins in medieval England. The Dining-In is now recognized as an occasion to foster ceremony, tradition, and camaraderie within an organization and to emphasize their importance in the life of a service member. It is an excellent occasion to bid farewell to service members who have departed, to welcome new ones, and to recognize the achievements of military service and individual members.
The cost of the affair includes a full course dinner. The main entrée is Prime Rib (Baked North Atlantic Scrod, or Eggplant Parmesan). Upon receipt of your application, you will receive a mailing that will include specific uniform and protocol information.
The Aqua-Turf Club is located on Mulberry Street in Southington, Connecticut. It is a short distance from Routes 84, 691, 10, and 322.
Your support of the only Senior Non-commissioned Officer activity, the Dining-In, has been superb. It is requested that you continue to support this, your Dining-In, and continue the great tradition. Submit your application to attend as soon as possible after receipt of this notice. Early response enables the committee to better plan the Dining-In and make it a more enjoyable evening for all.
NOTE: Seating will be arranged with unit integrity or upon a specific request for tables of ten. Appropriate fines will be imposed for violations of the Mess. Cost of fines will range from $1.00 to whatever is deemed appropriate by the President or Mister Vice.
I look forward to seeing you there!
