CW4 (Ret) David C Bastedo passed away 15 Feb 22 in Florida of Pancreatic cancer. Chief Bastedo was a UH-1 instructor pilot and also qualified in three fixed wing aircraft, the T-42, C-7 and
C-23. He was assigned to the CT AVCRAD in Groton. In addition to being a Vietnam veteran he served in Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield. His numerous awards included the Silver Star, Bronze Star and the Air Medal with 31 Oak Leaf Clusters. Mr Bastedo was also retired from the Connecticut State Police.

On Veterans Day 1996, the Veterans Memorial Fund unveiled a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC designed to travel to communities throughout the US. Since its dedication, “The Wall That Heals” has been displayed at nearly 700 communities throughout the nation, spreading the Memorial’s legacy to millions. This June it visits Norwalk CT.
