SFC (Ret) Thomas Pendleton Sr
Thomas “Tom” Pendleton Sr., 80, of Niantic, passed away peacefully March 15, 2022. Born Sept. 20, 1941, in Cranston, R.I., he was the son of the late Joseph Pendleton Jr. and Jeanie (McKee) Pendleton.
Thomas married his childhood sweetheart Carol Baton in 1962, and spent 34 years together, making a home and raising their family together in Chesterfield. Thomas proudly served as a junior firefighter in Niantic, and then became a lifelong member of the Chesterfield Fire Company, Inc. He was also a military veteran serving in the U.S. Army and the Connecticut National Guard. He retired from the former AVCRAD in Groton, working as the building superintendent.
Tom, Carol and Heather spent the summers living on their boat in Niantic. He also loved camping with his children and grandchildren. He collected lighthouses and loved the ocean. Tom liked to paint and draw. He would paint everything. Tom loved going to the races on Saturdays with his sons-in-law, Teddy and Allan. Above all else, Thomas found his joy in spending time with family; he loved animals and those he held close to his heart.
Thomas is predeceased by his parents; his wife; and his son Douglas Pendleton; as well as two brothers and his sister. Thomas is survived by his sister Doris McCambridge of Georgia. Thomas will be greatly missed by his children, Thomas Pendleton Jr. and his wife Kelly of Waterford, Linda Pendleton and her partner Tom Keramidas of Stonington, and Heather Randeau and her husband Jason of Salem, and Sharon Tuttle and her husband Allan and son Josh Shaw of Niantic, whom Thomas lived with for many years. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Christopher, Brandy, Derek, Nicola, Samantha, Jennifer, Natalie, Harley, Rocco and Brandon. He also had four great-grandchildren. Rosanne and Jessica McArdle were also part of Thomas’ family.
Thomas’ family would like to thank all the staff at Bride Brook Health and Rehabilitation Center for taking care of him and making him comfortable in the last months of his life. Funeral will be private. Any donations in Thomas’ name can be made to the Niantic Fire Department or Chesterfield Fire Company, Inc. or any organization of your choice.
