MAJ (Ret) Carl Blackstone:

Major (Retired) Carl A. Blackstone died unexpectedly at home in Colorado on Sunday, 6 February 2022. He was the husband of Heather Cracraft Blackstone who survives him. Carl was raised in Uncasville, Connecticut, by his parents Sergeant Major (Retired) Bruce and Joyce Blackstone, who predeceased him. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America and he and his brothers Mark and Gary made Eagle Scout on the same day. Carl graduated from Montville High School, studied electrical engineering at Thames Valley Technical School and received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Phoenix. Carl served in the CT Army National Guard for over 22 years, first as enlisted and then as an Engineer Officer. He commanded the 248th Engineer Company and held several staff positions in both the 192dand 242d Engineer Battalions. Carl’s expertise in military engineering resulted in his being assigned as the officer in charge of innumerable CTARNG engineering projects throughout the state. Carl also specialized in logistics and maintenance, particularly heavy equipment maintenance and was assigned as the officer in charge of the Unit Training and Equipment Site at Stone’s Ranch Military Reservation in East Lyme. Upon his retirement, Carl was serving as the State Maintenance Management Officer for the CT National Guard. After his military career, Carl developed and ran several businesses before moving to Florida and then Colorado, where he was the owner of Blackstone and Company. Throughout his life, Carl enjoyed working with people and was a positive influence on the lives of many friends and business associates. Carl lived with his wife Heather in Superior, Colorado, and found true joy in building their life together. Besides his wife Heather, he leaves behind his son from a previous marriage, Timothy Blackstone, and 6siblings and their families: Mark of Castle Rock, CO, Gary (Donna) of Uncasville, CT, Susan (Brad)Pendleton of Preston, CT, Jean (Tom) Olsen of Quaker Hill, CT, Cindy (Bob) of Fort Collins, CO and Sandra(Mark) of West Newton, MA.A memorial service will be held in Superior, Colorado on 6 May 2022.
